So just trying to play bf4. Im playing at 1680x1050 and with settings on ultra its like 20 fps. played around with settings to try to get more and it jumps from 30-50 but usually around 30ish. I know I have a bottle neck and would like to get this going without replacing whole PC.

R9 285 MSI, intel i5 750 @ 2.67ghz, 12 gb memory, ASRock P55 extreme, 750 power supply

Do I need a better CPU? If so is there a CPU fast enough I could get compatible with my ASrock p55 extreme mobo. Money is tight and I figured the GPU would boost me up to 60fps with medium settings. I was wrong. Your thoughts and advice is greatly appreciated.

I could be wrong but cpu was my best guess if any additional info is needed let me know.

The issue is the CPU. It's not going to be able to handle Ultra. You're running a 1st Gen i5 that's 6 years old. If you want to play Ultra, you're looking at an i7-800 series. But I would recommend not doing that. Due to the age of your PC, you're most likely better off starting fresh.

Edit: It's not the speed of the CPU (frequency), it's the efficiency of the CPU. Newer CPUs are more efficient and perform similar tasks better than older ones.

So as in fresh do you mean brand new Motherboard, memory and new CPU if so is there any good recommendations. Or do you mean fresh as in fresh CPU. I found a few CPU for my mobo.

Funds are tight right now but if its throwing money at something too old just let me know. I dont have to run everything on ultra just med or high would be nice. Thanks for your direction thus far.

I've got a built like yours, i5 760 @ 3.4 , r9 280, 8 gb ddr3 1333 and I've got no problems running bf4 on ultra (although I play it on lower settings). If you do not wish to upgrade, I'd recommand an overclock (if you know how to do it and have an after-market cooler), otherwise mobo+ cpu upgrade (it's not worth upgrading on that socket anymore).
