How Much Does Bottle necking Affect CPU Performance?

My question today is about a GPU bottlenecking a CPU.

If you have a high-end CPU paired with a low end GPU obviously you won't be getting the most out of your system, but I want to know how much you're not getting.

If I was to upgrade my CPU but wait for a while to upgrade the GPU then how much would my performance suffer during that time. Also, if I have a low-end GPU and then upgrade to a high-end CPU will I even see any performance increases in tasks like video games?

Thanks a ton -Christian

How about an i5 4590 with a 750 ti or r7 250x for example. Also I want to know if there will be NO difference in games at all if there is a big bottleneck or just not as big as there could be.

You get the most out of your system with a high end CPU paired with a low end GPU. The GPU is what get's you more fps, while the CPU just has to make sure, that the GPU can work at 100% load. Which it easily will in this scenario.
Another example: high end CPU + high end GPU
The CPU will still be capable of A LOT more GPU power so the GPU is still the "bottleneck" and the GPU actually SHOULD be the bottleneck of a gaming system, because there is no other way around it. The GPU will always be the limiting factor in a PC without bottleneck.

So you won't get any bottleneck + upgrading your CPU will give you some pretty small increases in gaming overall but CPU heavy stuff (Battlefield/GTA/Strategy games) will benefit big time from a better CPU. :)
