I just got a new laptop which is a Acer with a I5-4210U and I really didnt really want to go out and buy more ram so I took the 12 GB ram from my dell laptop which has a i7-2760QM, and put it into my Acer it fit perfect without a issue. After I did that my Acer's screen would no longer come on and it would not boot at all. I decided to put the ram that came with the Acer back in and it worked fine. Is there a way to use my Dell's ram? I really don't want to go out and spend $50-70 on new ram.

Solution
Yeah, not going to happen. The voltages and timings that come with your dell laptops ram are likely going to through the Haswell low voltage memory controller for a loop. You need DDR3L memory clocked at 1333/1600 mhz. Don't get ram with a higher clockspeed on your laptop since the processor is touchier than a desktop CPU.
