So I bought a SATA HDD, my old hard drive was having problems so I tranphered the data at a local Best Buy. I just hocked it up today and to my disapointment it wouldn't load. It shows up in BIOS but it won't load at all, it come up with
"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

No idea what's wrong with it please help!

UPDATE: I think when they transphered the data they didn't transphere the OS (Windows 8) , because when I loaded up my old drive it still had Windows on it, is there anyway I can check if Windows is installed or not. Also if it isn't installed will installing it screw up my data, if that is the case does anyone know how to instal Windows with out screwing up your data.

Hi there Sketchy_Fella,

It seems that they have transferred your data but not your OS. I guess they should have tried to clone the drive onto the new one.
You get that message as the drive most probably has no OS on it and it is not bootable.
You can see if you have Windows on the drive if you simply attach the drive as a secondary one to another system either externally(SATA to USB cable + power source cable) or internally(SATA + power cable).
As most probably, there will be no OS on the drive, you need to back up your data -> attach the HDD to your computer -> perform a clean install -> get your data back.

How can you back up the data stored on the drive? As you've already attach the HDD to another system, you can just move your...

How can you get your data back? In case it was backed up to an external drive, then you can just attach it to your system and transfer it. In case it was backed up to the internal(OS) drive of the other system, you will need to attach your drive to it once again in order to transfer it.

How can you install OS? In case you have a CD, it is easy. There are quite a lot of tutorials on that. In case it came pre installed(OEM) and you have no OS CD, you will need to contact the computer manufacturer on that. Then should be able to help you out.

Let me know in case you have some more questions,
