which board/cpu/socket would be better to rebuild a Win98SE system? i have a few parts for each:
Athlon XP on Socket A / 462
+ the processors seem to score better on benchmarks
+ i have parts, mobo and cpu
- hard to find extra spare mobos
- that cpu mounting system is annoying and not supported by any modern cooler
Pentium 4 on Socket 478
+ it's intel so i assume it's more supported?
+ i have more parts to work with (mobo and cpu)
- it doesn't score as well in benchmarks, usually at least 35% worse than AthXP
- even though i have spare coolers, they're kinda funky and i can't slap on a blue LED fan easily
no idea WHY i'm even rebuilding a Win98SE machine. maybe it's like climbing Mt.Everest - because it's there.
so which socket / processor family should i go with? i only have enough patience (and cases) to build ONE system
