In the process of switching ISPs (going from cable internet over to DSL).

The ISP provides a modem/router combo (it's a single unit, not separated). I don't want to use their router, and they don't offer a standalone modem.

What are my options with this? I was reading online you could plug a 2nd router into the original through a lan port. Would this impact performance? Or can i bridge them?

I really don't want to use their provided combo since it doesn't support the 5Ghz band.

Thanks, Morg

How would this look hooked up? I know it is possible to disable the wireless on their combo, but the tech reps are beating around the bush and trying to get me just to use their wireless.

I though access points were wireless? I don't want any speed loss if at all possible..

Thanks fellas!

First search the many post of how to use a router as a AP.

You should be able to disable the wireless in the ISP router and only use the wireless on your AP. Even if your can't disable the wireless in the ISP router you can configure the 2.4g band to not conflict or maybe disable the 2.4g in the new AP and only use it for 5g.
