I followed these steps, and while connected it flashes one red light slowly to indicate charging. But once I D/C it won't stop flashing all 4 red lights (presumably until the battery dies) :

1: Download the official drivers for the Xbox 360 controller from Microsoft's site. I use the 64 bit version, but you should choose the appropriate Windows version here: DOWNLOAD[www.microsoft.com]

2: Install the Xbox 360 controller drivers.

3: Plug in your PS3 controller with USB. Also plug in your bluetooth dongle if you want to use that (and install the drivers if you haven't already).

4: Download the XInput Wrapper drivers from here: DOWNLOAD[forums.pcsx2.net]

5: Unpack the file and run the ScpDriver.exe file from the ScpServer\bin folder.
IMPORT

Windows XP or Vista users - check the Force Install option.
Windows 7 or 8 users - leave it unchecked.

8: Click the install button.

7: YOU ARE DONE! Your PS3 controller will now work, using the official 360 controller drivers (it just tricks the computer into thinking it's a 360 controller).

8: Run whatever game that supports the 360 controller. The PS3 controller will automatically pair with your bluetooth hardware if it's connected to USB while the program is running.

Thanks to user Scarlet.Crush over at the PCSX2 forums for this wonderful fix!

Hope somebody can help out, thanks!

Solution

0.1 If the controller is connected to the USB cable, disconnect the controller from the USB cable..

0.2 If the lights on the controller are flashing rapidly, and the controller constantly are pushing on and on and on and on to get a pairing request passcode NEVER MIND THE DIALOG BOX! Don't even bother to reject it, it will only reappear pushing you over the edge..

0.3 Press and hold the PS button on the controller for about 10 seconds to make the controller disconnect and go to...

Is the cable your using the one that came with the controller? I think it may only supply power. Why not use motionJoy? I have used it for years with only a handful of BSODS from the bluetooth drivers.

Yeah it's the USB cable which came with the PS3, not that it should matter. This method is simpler than Motionjoy, but I will consider trying other methods (such as DS3 tool) but 1st I'm hoping somebody knows how to fix this?

0.3 Press and hold the PS button on the controller for about 10 seconds to make the controller disconnect and go to sleep, or disconnect the controller in the Bluetooth Preferences THE IMPORTANT THING IS THAT THE CONTROLLER HAS STATUS OF BIENG: NOT

If your control pad continuously blinks (i.e. the four lights flashing), just switch of the PS3 console and wait for the control pad to switch off aswell. Then switch the PS3 on again and wait till it tells you to press the PS button on the control pad. There the blinking would of stopped. Resetting the control pad does not work with this method as you'll still find it blinking after being pressed. The blinking stops you from interacting with the control pad where none of the buttons are responsive. This doesn't mean your control pad is defective or your console is faulty. It's just the console failing to pair up with the controller, either cos' the console has frozen or there was an error whilst pairing.

The reason for me posting this is cos' I came across the same scenario this morning and thought I'll let you guys know, so you know what to do; if and when it happens to you.

^ Maybe those posts help? Its difficult for me to troubleshoot that issue because my PS3 gear is unavailable ATM

Thanks Mcneal, even though all the info wasn't relevant since I'm not using it wirelessly through bluetooth, holding for 10 secs worked :)

I wonder if there's an alternative method (to avoid holding for 10 secs) though?
