Hello. I recently posted this build in the forums and got some good tips, but since threads here have such a short life, I decided to post it again for a final revision. Here's the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/7QjqCJ

I would like to keep it at or below the price it is at and I don't want to sacrifice much in power. Primary purpose is playing new games at high settings. Thank you for your help!

Update: Looks like I have the information I needed. Although I will be paying a bit more, it is not a problem, I will just have to save a little longer. Here's the final list:

Thank you all for your help!

For playing games at high setting if your running 1080p you want a 970, its significantly more powerful than the 960 and ideal for 1080p

You dont need to overclock to play at high settings so you can save a lot by going 6600 & H170 and use the stock cooler. You also dont need 16gb RAM, 8gb is plenty. By upgrading your GPU and lowering your CPU you will get a better gaming machine.

Ok so i changed you mobo and removed SSD cuz you can add him anytime and just clone your OS on it.
I also put you much better GPU since your main task is gaming. It is still in black and red them.

I would look at Haswell, i5-4690k. If you are on a tight budget. Memory, be it DDR3 or 4 doesn't matter for games. But DDR3 is cheaper. Half price actually compared to DDR4. And CPU should be cheaper than Skylake. Theres not much difference between the two, in one game Sky is 3% faster, in another Haswell might beat it. Then theres Mobo cost. I think those are similar priced on both platforms.

Forget future proofing, in 3-5 years you will have to buy everything new again.
And I would also go for something like 970 or 390/x. 960 might run games well today but it wont a year from now. GPU is usually the component that gives most bang for the buck in a gaming system, as long as you don't go crazy. Top of the line GPUs. Those will drop in price to half within a year.

I concede that I need a better graphics card for this build. Out of curiosity, how would the 970 do with a 1440p monitor? Also, I have already gotten the info I need on the CPU, I think i will be keeping the 6600k. Also, I prefer 16gb of RAM.

I am not on a tight budget, I just don't want to spend more money than I have to. You seem to be the only one who thinks future proofing is useless, and if I have to buy everything new again in 3-5 years, why buy a cpu that is already a year old?

I'd rather keep the ssd, thanks. It's only a matter of pay now or pay later, and I'd rather save up the money and buy all the parts at once. I can't tell if the mobo has SLI support, I only see crossfire support. I would like the option of adding another GPU in the future. Although I don't care TOO much for the theme, I appreciate it. :)

I don't understand the difference. Why would OEM be tied to the motherboard?

Okay, so I need a retail version so I don't have to buy it again when I upgrade the mobo or change computers. As long as I turn the graphics down a notch, it looks like I should be good for most games on 1440p. now the question is, do I want higher framerates and better graphics, or almost double the resolution? Hmmmm.... I'll have to think about that...
