Faulty Hard Disk Problems

Solution
Hi there Iammyselfisme,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(
Does your system still boot properly. In case it does, and the drive is accessible, I would advise you to back up the crucial data stored on it as soon as possible. After that, you can try cloning it onto another drive. Though, it would be a better idea to perform a clean install as your current drive is failing.(cloning process creates a perfect copy) I guess you can use Acronis True Image WD edition: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=3BQcB7
Is this an OEM drive? In case it is, and you decide to go with clean install, you may need to contact the computer manufacturer.

After all this, you can test your WD drive with WD's DLG tool and see what...

You're going to need to buy a new drive install windows then copy the files you want to save over. You're going to want to do that sooner rather than later otherwise there is a good chance you're going to lose everything.

OK, fair enough.
How do I:
[strike]A - Pick a new drive? (Or are they all standard fitting, like USB's?)[/strike] (Researched this)
B - Install an OS on it? (Do I have to pay for a new copy of Windows, or would ubuntu be acceptable?)
C - Copy files over?

Your options are really going to depend on what state your current drive is in.

For example if it is still accessible and is not too far gone you may be able to clone it to a new hard drive. This would be the optimum solution.

To give you the best advice could you tell us what version of Windows you have on your current hard drive and are you able to boot up and access your drive?
