downloading W8 with files installed already

do i need to delete everything from a specific hard drive to download a fresh os? building a new pc but all of my hard drives have stuff inside of them so i dont know if i have to move everything or if it'll even delete everything from it.

Everything important should already be backed up so that wiping or losing a drive should never be an issue. I suggest you make this a priority before messing with your drives

But toi answer your question, no you dont need to delete everything from a drive just to download the file. Its just a file like every other download. Once its downloaded you will need to create your install media (Disk or flash drive) and then you can worry about installing it.
