I can't decide on either of my builds to get, I have two decisions. One with an i5 4690K with an SSD and an SSHD and one with an i7 4790K and just the SSHD. What are the differences between the i7 and i5 in terms of performance, gaming and rendering. Is it worth sticking to the i7 without an SSD or should I just cut corners and get the i5 with an SSD. (Also, please don't suggest to get an i7 and then buy an SSD later as I have a fixed budget and I worked out it'll take me just under a year to save up for it, thanks).

Hi

If you regularly use software that can use more than 4 threads then i7 is better than i5
Sshd only useful as a boot device so extra cost wasted if a ssd used as a boot disk
Use a high performance hdd
Ssd is nice for starting up windows and programs quickly
But to read large data files off hdd will not help

Ssd useful in laptops that are used while you are on transport where you risk hdd damage due to shock
Probably not relevant to your case

A 240 gb ssd and 1 or 2 tb hdd is probably affordable as ssd prices have come down significantly in last year or so

if you takes you a year to save up for any computer part, get the less expensive option. i7 and budget don't belong in the same sentence, and if you read any of tom's hardware articles you know the jump between i5 and i7 isn't big for most tasks.

Sorry if you misunderstood (and sorry for my bad wording), I haven't bought the PC yet, but the whole thing (giving both options are roughly the same price) will take me just under a year, not just one part.
