So my home phone bill has become outragous. 30 bucks with no features. And I am looking to change to VOIP. I have searched for information on it but I must have been looking in the wrong places, as I have come out with minimal knowledge.

So I found this Linksys PAP2T NA on ebay for around 30 dollars. It claims that all i need to do is plug it in, set it up and it should work. After snooping around I realized that I need somthing called a SIP provider. Now I have found this website: https://www.getonsip.com and it seems they are giving out free SIPs. Are they legit? If so how does it work. Would I be able to keep my current phone number, and have features like caller id etc.?
Thanks, and If anybody has any recomednations please let me know. I am trying to avoid paying monthly, as that would kind of defeat the purpose.
(Hope this is in the right sub forum)

Sign-up for something like Vonage or Oomla.

Setting up a custom VOIP link is not for novice, and you never know when your provider will go belly up.

Whatever you do - make sure you will update your records with local 911 providers, so they know what address maps to that phone number
