This is what I have so far.

This is for a friend who will be primarily gaming on 1600x900. I went with G3258 over FX-6300 because of the better upgrade routes he can take. He'll probably have to OC it so it doesn't bottleneck the GPU, but I'm sure he'll manage. He does prefer closer to $700 (he shot down an i5-4460 based build I suggested). I'd rather not skimp out on other parts such as the PSU, case, or mobo, to squeeze it in.

Solution
Geekwads build but change to an H97 mb and downgrade to a GTX950 to save money.
The low resolution monitor won't need the power of the 960 to game well

Swapping out the hybrid hard drive will save too. It will only speed boot times so if you sleep or standby instead there should be no difference

Geekwad

Admirable
Another option, just for fun:

It really depends. People told me that a GTX 980 on 1080p would be overkill, but I play a lot of Skyrim and with all the mods I run, my OC'd 980 still hits 99% usage.

Thanks for the response though, I'll keep those in mind.
