MSI Gaming 5 Heatsinks necessary?

So My new motherboard is having a bit of a clash with a fan I am trying to install at the top of the case, The red "dragon claws" on the top of the heat sink is preventing me from sticking a second fan at the top of my case and I just need the clearance of the red claw (not the entire heatsink block) So the question would be can i just remove that one bar without issues (it can be unscrewed) or is it truly needed to have on there? https://www.google.com/search?q=msi+gaming+5&espv=2&biw=1600&bih=775&site=webhp&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiUzu_sptfJAhXCSCYKHXuiDFYQ_AUIBygC#imgrc=2tg2Rrw4pyP2hM%3A

Im just talking about the very top red bar, and also a with it removed i can fit my fan in there so literally less than 1 centimeter away is going to be an exhaust fan. So it shouldnt matter if I just take off the red bar right? or even just shave off the red spikes?
