Specs:
Intel i7 5820k
Nvidia evga 970 gtx ftw
Corsair 850 watt power supply gold cert
16 gig 4 card ddr 4 corsair vengeance ram
Corsair h110 gt water cooler
Asus sabertooth x99 motherboard

I bought a aecond nvidia video card exactly the same. I SLIed them. I turned on my pc and it wouldnt boot to windows. Tried again and it shut off immediately. Tried one more time andbit made it to windows but the resolution on my monitors werent right. When i enabled SLI it freaked out and screen went black. After an hour of trying i unplugged the second video card and ran it again and it work fine. Did i damage anything? It was underpowered

Solution
An 850 watt PSU should be fine with two of these cards, seeing as two of them would only draw a max of less than 400 watts combined. It could be an issue on the software side. What version of Windows are you using? You could try flashing your BIOS (be careful, though :(). Also, look in the motherboard's manual for information on what PCIE slots to use. Sometimes that can cause issues. Hope i could help :)

It was underpowered. I placed a corsair 1000 watt power supply and now it works fine

Oh please, I'll provide photo evidence to debunk that nonsense if necessary..
