How much do I need in an SSD?

You need at least a 120, but I would recommend a 240(256). The advertised size is not the actual size. A 120(128) might have a tad over 100gb and a 240(256) will have a touch over 200. Discrepancy is the number of bits in a byte deal. Anyway, I consider getting the OS on the SSD a must and it's nice to buy the biggest you can afford to get space for the most used programs. Remember, the speed difference between SSDs isn't that great, compared to the speed difference between an old fashioned disk with platters vs the ssd.

IMO even 128gb would be too small for me. Minimum 256gb for your main drive, games can be 30gb+ these days. Then all your windows updates and such, it will fill up quite fast. I have 163gb used space on my main drive at the moment, and i don't have all that many games/programs installed. Pointless having an ssd if you cant put all your programs/games on it.

Windows with a full complement of security updates, Microsoft updates, additional programs like ms office, 7-zip, Adobe, flashplayer, Antivirus, and all the other stuff that has a working relationship with the OS can easily top 80Gb without any extraneous stuff like games etc. Most important to remember is with an SSD you must leave at least 10-20Gb unused space or the SSD will slow down drastically.

A 64Gb SSD isn't a good idea, unless it's part of a larger build and used for swap file, page file, temp file alone. Minimum 120/128Gb or you'll spend more time cleaning out the drive than you will using it.
