Hi, everyone.

This is a bit complicated, so I try to explain it as best as possible.

In April 2015 I have assembled a new PC. Sadly, shop gave me a faulty motherboard (ASUS H87), Because of it, PC periodically turned off on its own.

Finally, I've replaced motherboard for a new one (ASUS H97) and for a month everything was OK. But yesterday, I left PC for a night and when I tried to "wake it up", it showed black screen. When I rebooted, it went straight to the BIOS and was unable to detect my HDD (Seagate, I think). I turned machine off, then turned it on and it was booting like normal.

Today, I left my PC for a night again, just to see what happens. I checked upon it in the morning and everything was OK, but 2 hours later it apparently has rebooted itself to the BIOS and once again was unable to detect HDD.

My configuration:
Intel Core i-7 4790k
Motherboard ASUS H97
Video GeForce GTX 970
RAM 16 GB
HDD 500 GB (no partitions, SATA)
OS: Windows 10 Enterprise Edition

I plugged HDD into different SATA port on the MB. So far diagnostic programs haven't detected and errors on HDD. Also, it started after I installed some major updates for the Windows. Not sure if it has anything do with anything, but just in case.

This HDD itself was bought in 2012, but until April 2015, it was lying sealed on the cabinet unused.

I really hope somebody will be able to help me, because, I am really tired of having more problems with absolutely new PC, than with old ones.

Well, it might be best to contact the mobo manufacturer's customer support and ask for assistance. Even though it's a new motherboard, sometimes these things happen with electronics and you might have gotten a faulty one. Or it might be a different issue, so it won't be a bad idea to take your computer to a computer service/repair shop for full diagnostic and see what might be wrong.
Hey there, BadTechKarma.

Did you try this out again after you've connected the HDD to a different SATA port? I'd recommend that you use different cables as well, as this might also be caused by a faulty cable. You should also backup any important data which you might have on that drive, just in case something unexpected happens.
I'd also recommend that you try to restore your system to a previous point (before the OS updates) by using System Restore, to see if the issue reoccurs. If it doesn't, then it would mean that the update is the most probable cause for that problem.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

I guess, its resolved now - it seems my UPS is not working as intended. In case of power surge it shutdowns both itself and PC. After that PC goes into "safe mode" where it doesn't use all its components to protect them from power surge. Hence skipping normal OS boot sequence.

Guess, I spoke too soon and it seems its not just a problem caused by UPS.

I left my PC turned on for several hours and when returned, it had stopped reacting on almost anything I was trying to do on the desktop. I attempted to access Task Manager, but it hanged up and gave me an error.

I rebooted machine (by using reboot button), but after that, it booted to the BIOS and not OS. And once again HDD was not detected. I turned it off, than turned it on and it booted normally. I am not sure whats going, except that I had a very similar experience, when my motherboard was breaking down in 2012, but this MB is completely new, which I've bought in November and, as far as I know, it was never under any kind of stress to start breaking down.

Anyhow, I hooked up my joypad via USB to PC, which for some reason causes a bug in the Windows 10, which permits PC from going into sleep mode or even activating Screen Saver.

Not really sure what is going on, except that I am very annoyed and disappointed. I hope somebody will be able to provide suggestion on what could it be.
