CPU: i7-4790K
GPU: XFX Radeon 7850 2 GB Core Edition
MOBO: Asus Z-97 AR

So I was was using the AMD Catalyst 14.12 Beta drivers up till a month ago, and upgraded straight to the AMD Crimson 15.11 Beta Drivers on 11/29/15.

I had no issues running the Crimson drivers at all other than the fact that AMD Overdrive wouldn't remember overclocking settings. It would return everything to default settings on restart with the exception of the GPU fan setting which it always manually set to 70%. I had to manually put the fan settings back on Auto every time otherwise I had a tornado in my computer case.

So everything was fine for the past 3 weeks or so until I had a random GPU crash yesterday night. You know where the colors go a funny then that obnoxious static noise kicks in. I wasn't doing anything that put the card underload, was just reading an article online when it happened. So I was like eh, I'll just hit the reset button.

So my computer posted like normal, saw the MOBO options, saw the windows 7 loading logo... then my screen just went blank when it came to the logon screen.

So I did a bunch of things for 8 hours... such as booting up in safe mode. Running sfc /scannow, chkdsk /f/r, which all came back negative on problems. Till basically I had nothing left to do but go into device manager and disable the AMD drivers.

On reboot after disabling AMD drivers everything worked fine... so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Crimson 15.11 Beta drivers... problem happened again. I tried uninstalling the Crimson drivers and reinstalling the Catalyst 14.12 drivers and the problem is still happening.

I keep getting blank screens no matter what as long as the AMD drivers are on. I am pretty sure my GPU didn't die since my dual monitors are hooked up to the GPU since my MOBO doesn't have any display ports.

So any ideas on how fix this or what is causing the problem?

Edit: A weird thing I noticed is that even when I disabled the AMD drivers in Windows 7 device manager, my computer refuses to use the Intel HD 4600 drivers. Its keeps on using the terrible VGAsave drivers.

Someone else suggested that my GPU might of died... but if that is the case then how am I still getting display since both of my monitors are hooked up to my Radeon 7850, since my MOBO doesn't have any display ports of it's own? If I am getting display from my integrated graphics, then why doesn't windows 7 uses the Intel HD 4600 drivers?

Well,

why not to try to install some of the older driver versions and see what will happen. After that try to back to crimson. I had similar problems in the past with my hd 6950 and resolved it that way. Actually the problem was specifically with 14.12. beta and I returned to my previous drivers.

Best luck!

So what happened was for some reason the Intel Drivers turned on by themselves, and overridden the AMD Drivers in terms of priority. So my computer was basically using the integrated graphics from my i7-4790K and sending all the display output to HDMI port that didn't have anything plugged in. Don't know how or why this happened, nor do I know why the AMD Drivers didn't override the Intel Drivers when all the monitors were plugged into the graphics card.

So the way I fixed this was I booted up in safe mode, went into device manager, monitors, and disabled the Intel Graphics drivers.
