R9 380 sapphire nitro! GPU load fluctuates from 0%-100% ????

R9 380 4gb Sapphire Nitro has fluctuating gpu load?!?!
(core clock also fluctuates)

GPU temps range from 37c at idle to 65/70 full load!
(have 650w seasonic gold psu with an i5 3570)

have latest drivers, have tried other drivers. (newest crimson drivers dont use CCC?)

vram seems to stay high use. tried turning up the power limit to max. i feel like it is software related either drivers or some settings im over looking due to in HEAVEN benchmarking it runs fine!

games i have ran and noticed gpu load drops- gw2, tera, and borderlands 2.

It is totally normal for GPU load to fluctuate based on how busy it is!

Even as low as 0 while in game??? Is gw2 just not using it? It ranges so much it looks like a heart rate being displayed.

Not really. Bf4 runs amazing on ultra and gw2 is cpu heavy so i get fps drops but nothing below 35-45 fps on max settings. Just never had a gpu that the usage didnt stay high on. Glad to hear that its prob just the game not needing it to run maxed usage. Thanks.

getting 45-60 fps in guild wars 2 while that was running. and temps have never gotten to 70c!

tera did stutter and fps drops a lot. just tried to run wildstar as well to test another game. screen went black and said no source and fans kicked up to 100%!!!

That card may be broken but first check for game patches. On the Crimson drivers are you using the hot fix?

Well i just now cleaned drivers out to start over and reseat cables and gpu. I had to run to store so when i get home i need to update drivers. Where do i get the hot fix?

ok so i am lost.... 15.300.1025.0 is what device manager says...AMD Gaming Evolved says 15.11

also why does it not download CCC?

ok, i installed drivers and hot fix, raised power limit to max (20%), the vram and core clock are staying high now like the card is working although usage in most games fluctuates... i played BF4 (max settings) ran 60-90fps. dragon age (almost max settings) ran 60 fps. planetside 2 (max settings) ran 60 fps. gw2 (max settings) ran 50-60 fps. dragon age was the only game that ran high usage constantly. i did make sure vsync was off for testing. ran high usage in HEAVEN as well. i tried Tera it ran terrible. i had to vsync the game though because my monitor couldnt handle the fps it had and it did get better but usage bounced and fps drops 20 from 120. WILDSTAR!!!! still load in fine and within a few min i get black screen that says no source.... any more ideas or opinions? (not sure why it runs other games so great but tera and wildstar)

Just read that dynamic shadows is not working with a lot of people who have r9 380 so off to retest that. (they all have crashes from certain settings)

Whats your full specs? Often if the GPU usage is dropping is because the CPU isnt fast enough to keep up.

also dont know what brand the cd/dvd drive is as well

Check your cpu temps while gaming, in case the cpu cooler was disturbed and no longer making good contact. Also check the CPU speed when gaming in case its clocking down.

Doesnt seem to be terrible. my buddy is giving me an i5 4690k in a few weeks when he gets his new cpu so im going to get a good gaming mobo for it as well.

Also max temps were 52c on cpu and 57 on gpu

anyway the max on my cpu load was 80% and even when it was in the 40-50% cpu usage the gpu usage would fluctuate... didnt really see a pattern!

Very odd indeed, I doubt its your cpu causing a problem. Was its clock speed over 3.0Ghz the whole time?

just ran BF4 and had good usage, and speeds stayed topped out so maybe its just game bad optimization..... or since gw2 is CPU heavy game that it could be a slight bottleneck... like i said it plays fine just bugs me that it jumps around like that. should i RMA and try another card or just hold it until my bud gives me that cpu?
