I have budgeted about $2k for a new gaming laptop. I built my own Desktop PC, but don't know as much about the laptop side of it. I just need advice on the best way to spend this money; whether it be to build my own and which parts I should buy, or buy pre-built. I am looking for a 17 inch screen. Any advice would be appreciated!

Try compiling a big list of all the different laptops that you find, whether they are good deals or not. Then, start comparing cost per value of each laptop. This way, you will begin to understand what to expect. Laptop prices change all the time, and any answer I give you here will probably become outdated with tomorrow's deals, new releases, or price changes.

Once you know the average of what you can expect in your area for a gaming laptop, that's when you stay patient and look around for great deals.

You can't really build a laptop, therefore your option is to buy pre-built.

My only advice would be to be aware that big name brands, like alienware, will cost a lot of money, because you're paying for the name. If you build your own desktop PC, you should understand what makes for a good computer. Just browse your local ads, look at amazon deals, etc. The main thing to be careful of is over-paying.

I have been looking around I'm just being cautious about overpaying I think. I'm not exactly sure what to expect price-wise, but honestly it seems like alienware might have the best deals right now on their website. I know razer is way more expensive for the same or inferior components. I understand I can't build a laptop like a desktop PC, but a website like ibuypower where I can pick an choose individual parts might be a good option? I'm just not sure the best parts for price I guess.
