Asus sabetooth mark I vs MSI z97 gaming 7

I am looking for a motherboard and I cant decide between the MSI z97a gaming 7 and the asus sabertooth mark 1. Which one is better??

I'd go the Asus ST, very good mobo, MSI I won't touch for builds due to their poor QC

Have you looked at the m5a99FX - pro, it's a good mobo also

Its a good choice, but apparently the st is better for intense use due to the more efficient cooling system. To be honest im more of a software guy, and know a little about hardware, so I am really unsure about it. Plus its my first build

No worries, know how you feel, I started as a programmer on big iron, and gradually moved myself more into hardware, got extremely bored sitting and knocking out code all day

For wifi I just keep some USB adapters around, and yes the Hero is a great mobo, I've gotten and have all three models running between my shop and the house

The thing is that most of my friends have an msi z97a gaming 7 paired with an 17-4790 k and an msi gtx 970, and since they never had problems whatsoever, i was following their decision. Now, you daid that msi isnt very good, so i would like to know why?

I get more trouble calls on MSI mobos than any 2 other manufacturers put together, for builds I stick with Asus the Rock and GB mobos, none of which are near as problematic as MSI, BioStar, ECS and the like

For my Z97 I went with the Hero and have been extremely happy, and it's far under your budget, so could pick up a wifi card or USB wifi to go with it easily

How about the msi z97 mpower max ac? Is it a good mobo? Can it run high end games with high (if not ultra) settings?

For nVidia cards I prefer EVGA and Asus, EVGA in particular bins out their GPU chips and then offers their cards in a variety of different Pre-OCs, Asus card I always found to OC well and run very cool (some exceptions i.e. most all of the 290Xs ran rather warm

And as mentioned I don't use or recommend MSI mobos due to their poor QC

I normally shop at NewEgg, though there's also Amazon, Tiger Direct, Fry's and others. Between EVGA and Asus - if you want the pre OC probably EVGA, I OC myself and tend to lean towards Asus

ok anyways, after the really positive reviews of my friend, i am going with the msi x99a sli plus motherboard. however, as a gpu im definately going with an asus strix gtx 970 (however the 4gb = 3.5 + 5 leaves me a bit perplexed on its overall functionality). despite the fact that you dont like msi, do you think this will be a good overall build (paired with 16 gb ddr4 and intel 17-4790k)?

If you get a good mobo (of this model), Yes

As a builder I don't like taking the chance - if it's DOA or goes belly up, it's on me to take care of it (and if need be, tear it down, RMA it, provide a loaner, etc.

because apparently the i7-5820k is good. but this means that ill have to change some things so i can stay in the price range
