Hi,

I have a one month old installed system with:

Asus Ranger VIII
Intel i5 6600k CPU
A Data XPG 2400 Mhz PC4-19200 4x4 GB DDR4
Corsair H100i GTX
Thermaltake 630W SE
Intel SSD 530 120GB
Geforce GTX 970 G1 Gaming

and yesterday i got a BSOD and system reset and could not boot into windows anymore, i got a lot of BSOD errors and Q Codes including AE AD O4 A9 and a lot more but for now it is constantly in a restart loop or just stuck with Q Code 04 and the orange BOOT_DEVICE_LED always on. And sometimes i get a message about setting the RAID correctly in the situations where i do not have any RAID connected devices.

I am desperate as i have a lot of work to do and i alredy lost some projects from the past days i was working on the SSD as i erased the SSD along all other advices i got online but the bios keeps resetting when trying to access it and when i get to boot choice and i select either USB or DVD Drive with the windows installers the windows logo shows up but them the system restarts and keep showing code 04.

I changed CSM and SECURE BOOT settings and still nothing worked.

I removed RAM one by one and tried to enter BIOS and i managed to upgrade BIOS from 0401 firmware to last upgrade 1201 and now UEFI BIOS shows the correct BIOS version but still the pc keeps restarting in BIOS or stuck with Q Code 04.

I cleared CMOS removed battery and re-installed batery.

I dissasembled and re-assembled the system and the cables one by one and i checked them properly one by one.

I also tried with a different SSD and a different HDD one by one.

I removed all cables and replaced SATA and PSU cables with new ones and still same issues.

I removed GPU and tried with mainboard HDMI and DISPLAY PORT with 2 different monitors for each.

I tried with Windows 8.1 and 10 CD installers and USB drives created with WINDOWS DVD/USB Tool and RUFUS and POWERISO too and nothing booted and still the same error so let me know what i can do!

The system was running Windows 8.1 Pro updated wednesday with the latest updates and i use Bitdfender Antivirus and i actually found some treaths before updating windows last week so that is why i updated windows, maybe this might have something to do i don`t know i really am out of options right now.

Thank you in advance for your answers,
GTRobert

Yes of course, just the BIOS was at the default 0401 Firmware and i managed to upgrade it via EZ Flash BIOS Utility to last 1201 as i said.

And another mention i forgot to add is that the CPU was running at base clock with no OC applied, i made OC to 4.2 and 4.5 just for benchmarking in the first days after the system build but that was all, the RAM was OC to 2400 with XMP activated at the time of the first fail yesterday and was like this from the first days of the build but got no errors and now the BIOS settings are at the default values, also used MEM OK tool and RAM seemed to succed booting.

I have the same problem on an i7 6700k. Out of the blue the PC froze. On reboot it would freeze on windows load and cut power to all peripherals. I did the same as you and updated to latest version of bios. I started getting 04 q-code and managed to boot after 100+ retries but it would restart after a few seconds, agai with q-code 04.

My oppinion is that the MB is very unstable. I have sent it to warranty and will post here when they find the source of the problem.

Ok so should i get the MB to warranty or try with other RAM kit or what else might be done to test?

Ok so the RAM to test should be at 2400 or it can be higher or it does not matter?

I just finished testing with a new RAM stick that is mentioned in the MB manual and a new PSU and tried all options i did before and i still get to BSOD errors and Q Code 04 with restart loop and same issues as before, so what should i do next?

Hi again.

The problem, for my case, was the CPU. After they swapped it it seems like everything is back to normal. If you think about it, it makes sense since the MB hangs during PCH init. If you have a friend with a 6th gen CPU maybe you can try to swap it and see if the issue gets resolved. Cheers

Hey,

Thanks for your message, ok so the ASUS representatives confirmed the CPU fail?
I was just thinking to go to the warranty with the MB but now that you say it`s the CPU i think i should go with both pieces to warranty or just CPU?

I also already removed and re-installed the CPU few times because i read someone had the issue solved with this but still nothing.

I just got back with both Motherboard ( Asus Ranger VIII ) and CPU ( Intel i5 6600K ) replaced, they were faulty and got both replaced with new products, let`s hope this ones will be better but i would not trust in buying these in the future to avoid 1-2 weeks of problems and questions asked around, if i would had to buy a new system i would go with a more basic build for more stability or higher end Asus Rog MB or i7 CPU.

Thank you everybody for your answers and help offered!

I wish everybody happy holidays and a happy new years!

Cheers,
GTRobert
