Hi guys, I am having problems with my cpu fan. I cleaned my pc (mainly the cpu fan) and I am getting a grinding noise and high temps up to 78c!! Please help, no cables are in the way and the grinding sound is intermittent. It cools down a bit after starting windows and then as soon as i start Skyrim it goes to 70 and higher and the grinding sound starts again! HELP! Thanks.

If you blew the air directly on the fan it could have spun too fast or pop off the bushings or bearings. Its probably toast.

do you think that when i put the heatsink/fan combo back onto the cpu it might realise that the thermal paste is dried up? Also i reseated the cpu fan and it lowed the temps to 60c when idle and then goes down to 42c when cooling down and when i play games it rises to around 70-78c again.

Sounds like you messed up the bearings or something internal... dirt may have gotten in there or somehow caused damage in that matter. You are better off buying another fan. If it's a recent purchase most manufacturers will just send you a fan like NZXT did when I asked to pay for another set of their fans to do a radiator Push-pull setup. Just find the one you neeed online, if the company doesn't stock it send them an email.

On a side note your temps aren't bad at all. What are your hardware specs anyways? (CPU and fan combo?) 70-78 really isnt bad at all for gaming. Hell on my overclocked 4790k I sit around 81 degrees while gaming and at idle about 15 degrees.

Yes, I have put in my TMG A2 Thermaltake cooler now with some new thermal paste, works fine now but when I play Fallout 4 I still get temps up to 73c and sometimes it would go up to 78c. Every other game is normal temps (around 50 - 60). I am just trying to find the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO on ebay.com.au but most of them are just bids and selling them quite expensive and every other site doesn't stock them either...

I have a 212 Evo laying around that I only used for a week before I said screw it and went to liquid cooling. 78 really isn't bad at all I start to get uncomfortable past 82. I use I'd say you could have my 212 Evo but I'm missing the brackets I believe. fallout 4 runs hotter than normal for me as well but, I run it completely maxed as well.
