Hello everyone,

I am looking to get my son a computer for Christmas this year. He likes to play games like Starcraft and League of Ledgends but will also be doing schoolwork on this machine.

Do you have any advice on what I could do better on my build? My budget is $500 and anything you can suggest to lower the cost would be great also.

Thanks!

Your build is pretty good,it even has the option for some overclocking. AMD is a bit of a dead end with this socket so you know.
Something to take the budget down a little,

a better performing gpu for less money

An Intel build i just made for a comparison,

this has windows in it so if not necessary are there options for better parts, the psu,cpu and gpu for example.

Thanks! I think I will add that video card. Is there any cou you can recommend that will not have the issue of the dead socket? (Preferably amd)

Just a personal preference. I have had good experiences with amd processors.

I've had good experience with AMD too,but the Intel build is just the better one within the budget given. An AMD FX 8350 would maybe be be as good in the most tasks, but as often will loose to it in benchmarks, for gaming and schoolwork is the intel the better choice right now.

Hopefully will AMD come with better cpu's again down the road but right now it's just not the best solution.
