Im deciding between the i5 6600 and the i5 6500. Im making a build for my mom. She does basic web browsing like pay the bills, watch Youtube and Netflix, and browse Facebook. The 6500 is about $19 cheaper. Is it worth it to get the 6600 or should I stick with the 6500?

For that an i5-6500 is totally unnecessary. Here the quality of other components plays a part. The Intel i5-6500 and over is for heavy applications.

It's best to focus on Pentium G3220 processor + 8GB RAM + 120GB SSD. Those will make sure you're getting very fast and good performance with any sort of browsing and Microsoft Office tasks.

The misconception is often that a strong processor = faster performance. However even an i3 processor would not be used full power here. The G3220 is a very strong dual core processor.

Worth is something only YOU can determine.
Be nice to your mom.

But, for your app, I would spend less for better performance in those tasks using a i3-6320.
Most importantly, use a good ssd for windows.
The skylake integrated graphics is very good.

I agree that an i3 would work just fine but my dad has a mac with a quad core and I just don't want my moms computer to fall behind his. Also she's gonna have softwares and programs running in the back andI would hate to have her PC slow down because her CPU doesn't have enough cores.
