I considering taking a work from home position but I will need to use my pc for this and would like to keep as much of my PC as private as possible from anyone while still allowing me to do my job. Can I create a guest account that will only allow access to what I need in order to do the job (such as specific web browser, my internet connection software and one other installed program for example)?

Nothing else on my PC should be accessible (preferably not even visible) from this guest account.

I'm using Windows 8 NOT Windows 8.1

First off you should really upgrade to 8.1, and for my suggestion take it one step further and go with Windows 10.

If you really want to make it impossible for any software you install to spy on your non-networked files, you should use a virtual machine using Client Hyper-V (Pro versions only). The main reason for upgrading to 10 is that Client Hyper-V now supports vGPU, letting you use practically any software including CUDA/OpenCL based computation, CAD, video editing, even some games. What's in the virtual machine can't access the rest of your computer (unless you manually add that), so you'll be able to enjoy privacy and work compatibility.

If you don't already have a Pro version, you should purchase a retail copy of Windows 10...
