Why can't I get my Brother printer out of deep sleep mode?

All of the help sites say to just hit the power button, but that does nothing for me except switch it between sleep and deep sleep mode. I turned it off and then back on, and it started in deep sleep mode. Uplunging it did not work either and it started in deep sleep again as soon as it was on. How can I fix this? It's a Brother HL-L2360D series.

Yes you could buy your own router but that will raise another set of issues and probably require you to purchase your own internet service.

Do you own the printer? Is it shared with other users on the network?

Let's back up a bit and work with the printer directly via the built in menus and options.

Here is a link to the User Guide:

Use the printer's menus to print out the Print Settings and the Print Netsettings. Having a paper reference makes it easier to figure out how the printer is configured and look for a setting that is not as expected.

It's connected by wifi to my home Internet. And three hours later it started to print... I have no idea why. I didn't turn my computer off and was watching youtube and working on a doc in word, and suddenly it printed the document I had sent 3 hours before. It's back in deep sleep mode now though, so the problem is still not fixed.

Sometimes it takes awhile for network devices to "handshake" and start working.

Then if something goes into sleep/hibernate mode the process has to start over again.

Wireless can be very slow and I generally avoid and recommend not to use printers wirelessly.

I suggest that you set up the printer to use a static IP address reserved for it on the router via the printer's MAC and that that address be outside of the DHCP IP address range allocated for the router to use when network devices request an IP address.

Turn off sleep/hibernation modes on the printer also.

I have no idea how to do that. Also my Internet is hugesnet and the router and satellite receiver are very unreliable and have to be reset often.

The static IP address is done within the router and requires administrator rights. Hopefully you have the manual for your router or can find the manual on line.

Very unlikely that Hugesnet, the router, or the satellite receiver are involved with respect to configuring the printer to sleep/hibernate. Excluding the router's initial IP address assignment to the printer none of the devices care about the printer.

As for the printer the "time to sleep/hibernate" (if the printer has that feature) is set either via the printer menus directly: e.g., 10 minutes, 30 minutes, etc.... or could be via the driver software.

Could I just buy my own router and set this up on the new one? Because the one in my house isn't mine, it's Hughnets and is on lease so I'm a little afraid to mess with it. Also thanks for your help ☺

Use the Guide to double check how you are configuring the sleep/deep sleep modes. If anything just turn off the sleep related options - yes that will consume more energy but the first objective is now to get print jobs to print immediately.

Get "immediate print" working and then phase in the energy saving sleep settings.
