Hello everyone,
I've come across a problem that hasn't been that bad until I realized that I sometimes need to restart my computer while using a remote desktop. For some reason, my computer running windows 8.1 won't start programs on boots. This can be fixed with more restarts in the future, but it seems to randomly not run any programs. I know this isn't a virus since this is a clean install of windows and I can't fix it through a remote desktop because chrome won't boot with it. I don't know if anyone else has had an issue similar or found out how to fix that, it would be a great help. Thanks.

Here's what you should do. Set up a proper RDP, and if your crome stuff doesn't work, log in with RDP from your cellphone (android, ios, windows, all support it) and restart it with the instruction I already gave you.

The startup issue is most likely a result of the random programs you're using, but I doubt you'll be willing to remove them to test if that's the case.

Never said it was chromeos. I said that chrome doesn't boot with the computer, and I happen to use chrome to manage a remote desktop program that I use through my chromebook. Its windows 8.1 64 bit pro edition (installed through a university license). It is a core i5 4690k @ 4.4ghz on a asus z87 pro mobo running windows off a 240gb ocz arc ssd with programs and the various user account folders put onto a 3tb seagate hard drive. I'm also running crossfired 7870's and am using the integrated intel hd graphics to run a second monitor. All drivers for each component were downloaded directly from their website of the manufacturer. Additionally this has occurred on two separate installations of windows 8.1, and on windows 7 of another computer. Most of this information is not going to help, but I may as well add it.

So you are not using RDP? If you use RDP, it should work exactly like if you were logging in from the computer. You have Pro, so you should be using RDP.

Most likely the issues is this:
1) You are NOT using RDP, rather a third party remote VIEWING app
2) The app is set to start on login rather than start on boot
3) You can't log into the computer to start the app, so it doesn't work

The easiest is to enable a proper remote desktop (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/connect-using-remote-desktop-connection#connect-using-remote-desktop-connection=windows-7 instructions work for 8.1 and 10 as well) and just use that.

Other than that, your only real option is to break system security and set up an auto-login program to log in at boot. That would log you in and then your app would work. This NOT RECOMMENDED as it's a huge security risk.

Alright, no I am not using RDP, I'm using chrome remote desktop because that is the only rdp style program that works with chromebooks, but that is not my problem that I have here. My problem is that occasionally on a restart, exe programs refuse to load (which chrome remote desktop is just one of about 20 that I have). I am saying that on these certain random reboots, I can't open any exe programs whatsoever.

BTW, my system is already set to autologin through netplwiz, and this isn't a problem because it is always in a room that is locked, so no big deal. I'm saying that this is a bigger problem when im remotely logging in because I can't physically restart the computer anymore to fix the issue with the exe programs not running.

Well, if you were running RDP like you should, you can easily restart it simply by typing "shutdown.exe -r -f -t 0" in the start search or run.

You do know there are android RDP clients from microsoft that should work right? Using https://developer.chrome.com/apps/getstarted_arc you might be able to get those to work and avoid 100% of issues you are having trying to get the PoS google calls an OS to work with a third party remote viewer.

I am running google remote desktop because that is all that chromeos supports, and I am using a chromebook for college. I am not having an issue with the remote desktop program. I am saying that randomly upon startup, sometimes ANY exe program, be it from one drive to steam to everything else refuses to start up and I can't manually run any exe programs. The remote desktop program not starting up is just a side effect of this problem, and because I am using it remotely I can't restart it through physical means. The actual problem once again is that ANY EXE PROGRAM won't run.

Also, chromeos is great. It works for what it is advertised to and is great in a college environment because it is cheap, doesn't break, and has support for nearly anything needed for note taking.
