Hello,

I have an old gtx 460 in my current pc that I'm wanting to replace after the holidays (christmas for me).

I'm not quite sure what my budget is yet, however, my main question is

Are there any AMD cards that are more powerful than my gtx 460 card I have right now, but are in the same price range or worth as much as the gtx 460. I know Nvidia charges more money, so I was just curious if there are any more powerful AMD cards around that are equal to the value of the gtx 460.

Thanks in advance!

Solution
From what I could see, you could go as low as the R7 260X, in the AMD product stack, and see similar performance to your 460. So anything higher than that will be a performance gain.

Is it possible that I can buy a pci converter to put on my non-sli motherboard? That way I can have two gtx 460's like you mentioned? All I would need is a really big power supply, right?

No, your motherboard must be SLI compatible for it to work.

Nope. You need an SLI certified motherboard plus the PCI-E bandwidth. You would need to replace your motherboard to go SLI, but you may as well just get a GTX 960 instead rather than getting a new motherboard, second 460, and new PSU.

A second 460 would be a very bad choice seeing as the tech is so old and the SLI in the 400-series was effy. You should go for a AMD R7 270X and then you will be much better of than you are now.

I wouldn't recommend SLI even if the motherboard were capable. The card is old and the programs that need the extra performance are likely going to need more memory than you will have. Your best bet is a new card with at least 2gb of VRam.
