It seems that Microsoft is trying to shut down windows 7 by refusing to allow people to download the iso files for installation. Is there a way to get the iso files that isn't dodgy? I have a windows 7 pro key but I need the OS to use it in the first place

Solution
Yeah unfortunately they got rid of the digital river distro for ISO's. There are still ways, but it'll will depend on what kind of license you're using. If its a retail/Full version go here
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

If its an academic copy go here
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/vlacademicISO

If you have an OEM copy, it may be harder. You can try contacting Microsoft support and explain that you have an OEM key but you lost the disk. They'll likely explain you need to contact your system manufacture for a replacement. But explain you have a system builder license and need the media and I've heard of people getting disks at the cost of delivery and a small surcharge. You can find them...

I tried that but it says my key may not be valid, the key was provided by my school so I would guess that the key is valild.

If you have an OEM license and nothing above works, you could someone with a Dell or something with the install media and go from there. Most OEM OS disks tend to be the same thing.

Finally, you could just give Windows 10 a try. You can use a Win7 or Win8 key with a clean install of Win10 and it'll work.

Your first solution is essentially what I've been trying to do. but I might try using the key on windows 10.

Can anyone verify that this site is working? I keep getting "product is not supported" errors when I try some of my keys (I want the latest ISO now that Oliver-Note brought this up...) :p

I have two copies of Academic Pro 7 (so I use the academic one for those), and one full retail (regular version). Neither are verifying correctly :(

I'd give MS a call then if you have academic and retail copies that aren't working on their site. Tho if you already have media with SP1 on it, you have the latest version.

That's so depressing... that media is dated mid 2011. I was hoping someone did a refresh after the 300odd updates since :(

Nope. Having just built up a number of refreshed images for work I can safely say allllllllll the god damn updates are still there.

There is a mirror of the digitalmirror download site at <link removed by moderator>
this will most likely not work with your key though..
