Hello,

I recently upgraded my new gaming rig and it works fine..

Mobo: Asus M5A97 EVO r2.0
GPU: MSI HD6850 Cyclone

This mobo has 4 memory slots (2 blue, 2 black)

I have 4 rams ==> 2 * 2GB Corsair 1333mhz and 2 * 4GB Corsair 1333mhz

When I insert both the 4GB rams into the two blue ram slots, the system boots and works fine and shows total 8GB memory available,

BUT

when I insert both the 2GB rams into the two black slots as well, the system either hangs at boot or never boots...

All the rams are from Corsair and has same frequency 1333mhz. I thought of inserting all the rams and get 12GB system memory, but the boot fails... Any reason?? Am I missing something??

pls explain..

Thank u guys...

First make sure they're the same make/model. If they're different CAS or voltages that could be screwing with something. Simply being the same brand and speed isnt all you need to consider with matching sets.

Second try testing the RAM and the slots.
You could have bad RAM or bad slots since it sounds like the 8GB (2x4GB) sticks are ok. Pull those out completely, then try testing the 2x2GB stick in the slots and see if you can get it to at least boot. First test the 2x2GB in the slots you had the 2x4GB and if the booting is successful, try the other slots. If you can get it to boot, try testing out the memory with Memtest86+ from a bootable USB drive.

If when you swap the memory around you still cant get the system to boot then it sounds like you may just have some bad sticks.

2gb ram model - VS2GB1333D3
4gb ram model - CMV4GX3M1A1333C9

both has same CAS latency 09-09-2009

Different???

Well the specs are the same. But the wildly different model numbers make me wonder what underlying differences may be there between the sets. In any case, try testing out the memory in singles and in pairs like I mentioned and see where you get with it.

The Rams are working separately like 2*4GB and 2*2GB.

But not working all together. Any ways to combine all say by changing BIOS settings coz 2*2GB rams will be of no use which hurts a bit.
