Hi all I didn't know what to do so I thought I'd come to the forums for help :D First time so.
About the 7th of December this month I bought a brand new Gigabyte gtx 970 g1 gaming from MSY. I've done some bench marking and have played some games and I'm not sure if my GPU is even good? I've heard that this GPU is fine to play 1080p games maxed out.
Here are my specs:

Operating System
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i5 3570 @ 3.40GHz
Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology
RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 (CPUSocket)
Graphics
G2460 (1920x1080@144Hz)
Intel HD Graphics (ASRock)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (Gigabyte)
ForceWare version: 359.06
SLI Disabled
Storage
223GB SanDisk SDSSDHII240G (SSD)
931GB Western Digital WDC WD10EZEX-00RKKA0 (SATA)
Optical Drives
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS95
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio
Also I've got my results for my Furmark Benchmark.

Thanks in advance!

Solution
That is the score you should be getting now the 9k, ac3 is famously unoptimized for all gpus, go down to high, it will help a little.

Don't expect much optimization with ac games, the newest ac performs better than the old ones to give you an idea how bad the old games are.

Do a Firestrike benchmark, it's free and most reviews contain a firestrike score which is great for comparing. My setup gets a 10,500 with the CPU @ stock and GPU OC'd for example.

Firestrike is also more responsive to ANY type of OC vs. using a game benchmark or game-play which will have less variance, It's also good to use to make sure there aren't any visual artifacts from OC'ing GPU too much and or crashing.

Note: Use programs like Afterburner to OC/monitor temps, vram, mhz.

Thanks for the reply, I just did the test and here is what I got, not exactly 10,500 but I think It's a terrible score to what I should be getting. http://s18.postimg.org/ffsa2n5q1/Capture_1.png
Thanks

Very low, our setups are similar and should be close, what was your cpu/gpu usage in afterburner. Make sure all updates are installed as i've ntoiced when I have updates pending to be installed my GPU core clock stays at like 300mhz which results in my games acting different until I install them and restart.

I'll have to do the test again because I forgot to open it, but I did it just then before with my GPU Overclocked GPU Clock +393 and memory clcock +500 and I got a score of 4825 (which is even worse) is this maybe my card being faulty?

Your GPU OC is way too high, try +100 mhz as GPU boost 2.0 will make that more like a +150mhz and +500 on memory clock is 9000mhz (X4) effective which 970 don't normally do, your OC is a lot higher than what review sites do...

Where is the dowload for GPU Boost 2.0? I can't seem to find it. I'll do that OC like you said when I can find the download hahaha.

GPU boost is a feature build into the hardware and you can monitor Mhz your GPU is hitting real time when you have "core clock" monitored in Afterburner, also have the following monitored:

GPU temp, GPU usage, core clock, memory usage, CPU temp, and CPU usage.

This will answer more questions.

I just finished the test again and I got a score of 4879 with a over clock of +100mhz core. My gpu usage is 99% (the whole time when in the tests, 36*c lowest and 51*c highest temps on gpu, cpu temp was 37*c lowest and 69*c highest (cpu 1) 40 and 71 (cpu 2) 42 and 72 (cpu 3) 42 and 70 (cpu 4), and cpu usage max was 98%
hope that helps

I have Searched up updates and it did a small one not needing to restart, testing the benchmark and nothing has changed

Just checked and yes I do have it in that slot closest to the cpu, what do you think is the problem here?

Just a quick question, if I had to return this gpu would I better off getting a r9 390x? And also would a 620 watt psu be enough to support it?

So what do I do with this capped core problem? So if I was to get a 390 or 390x that an antec 620 psu might no be enough?

bomb,
you are not alone :) I hope that makes you feel a little better :)

I am constantly getting abysmal scores from Unigine Valley 1.0 and Fire Strike! ABYSMAL. At least 40% lower scores than others with THE SAME components. Literally.

I tried: tweaking the settings in Catalyst (letting the applications choose their own settings when it comes to AA, VSync..............), updating and reinstalling the driver(s) (it was already up to date, but I tried reinstalling it), disabling anti-virus, tessellation on/off - literally everything.

Gaming-wise (and otherwise) the card is working perfectly.

I am VERY curious and upset. Not really worried cause the card is being recognized and is functioning fine..........but yeah I am really upset for not being able to find the reason...................................

I am just playing Assassins creed 3 right now and I'm getting on maxed out setting 1920x1090 44 fps.... THAT'S IT! I don't know but I'm thinking my GPU might be faulty now

Actually the gtx 970 memory issue caused quite a stir in my country. ... Something about 970's chipset not being able to allocate memory.......something like that....... not using all available memory.......

Maybe your card is from that faulty batch...
..although the numbers would not be THAT low even if your card used only 2GB of its RAM.................

I would most certainly return it if I were you...
