Lets say i only require 350w and i get a 550w one. Will i use more electricity compared to if i get a 450w psu and hence cause a wastage of electricity?

No, the bronze, silver, gold platinum ratings impact efficiency. At the extreme ends of PSU usage (under 10% or over 90%) PSU's are slightly less efficient so avoid getting one that will constantly be working in those ranges.

A system will only draw the wattage/current it needs, it then becomes how efficiently the PSU can supply it by converting the mains voltage.
