I have just ordered some Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz C15 Memory Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M2B3000C15) Ram or see here for the direct link to it on Corsairs website ::-->> http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/vengeance-lpx-16gb-2x8gb-ddr4-dram-3000mhz-c15-memory-kit-black-cmk16gx4m2b3000c15

I have done a little homework on it so far and can see the normal default running frequency is (I think) 2400MHz but according to lots of other things I have read and watched I have seen that by simply applying the XMP 2.0 profile in bios it should "hopefully" get up to 3000MHz, but will it for sure, thats the question ?

I can add one thing, the motherboard I have ordered is supposed to be a total ace at overclocking Ram as the ram and cpu bios settings are totally separated unlike a lot of older boards, its the Asus ROG MAXIMUS VIII IMPACT ITX and on asus's website it says that that board can overclock ram all the way up to 4133 and possibly above, I know thats only if you buy Ram that will OC to those levels though.

So the main question is about the ram I have ordered, anyone know for sure how that will clock using the XMP 2.0 profile settings in bios ?

Oh, my processor is a Skylake i7 6700K if that makes any difference, I dont know.

Thanks guys and girls :)

Solution
Yep, should be fine, might need a small OC on the CPU to hit 3000 (it will depend on your individual 6700K and how strong the MC (memory controller) is, if any problems give me a shout ;)

ok cool mate thanks.

Yeah the cpu will be clocked at least to 4.6, I think the vast majority of people on the internet have been able to get to 4.6 and more.

Far as I know though after watching several videos about overclocking with that motherboard, I'm sure they say that the CPU and Memory bios settings dont effect each other unlike other motherboards, I'm not sure if its a first for that tech or what though, but I do know with my current system and past ones that what you say is correct in that the cpu and ram bios settings effect each other, didnt think they would with this board though, I dont know, either way though as long as that ram gets up to 3000 I will be a happy puppy :)

I know ram speed isnt the be all and end all etc but as things are up and coming with these 6th generation setups we are going to be seeing faster and faster DDR4, I was reading things that said very soon there is going to be crazy speed ram modules for sale, whether or not they make the slightest bit of difference is another story though, lol.

Thanks again mate :)

I'm not up to scratch on ram mate, but is that by simply enabling the XMP 2.0 profile in bios, yeah ?
