Does a PSU have to be compatible with any of the components in my PC?

I'm looking for a new PSU since the one in my prebuilt computer is bad. What components in a PSU do I need to look for to make sure it's compatible with everything in my computer?

If you have a haswell CPU it needs to be haswell compatible due to it's low power usage during sleep mode. Make sure it's enough wattage

First, what is your prebuilt (make and model) since some prebuilt machine still use proprietary power systems. Currently Lenovo and HP are most common to use proprietary power but others may also (model dependent)

Although you can do better, if the computer seems stable I personally wouldn't fret about it too much. If your computer is acting funky, any quality ATX PSU of 500W or greater will work there - see here for ideas http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html
