I am currently planing for a build and have a couple questions. I bought a Sony vaio laptop few years ago and was wandering if I would be able to use it on my current build. Also can I use the operating software that is installed on it on my new build. Because If I'm able to do that then I won't have to purchase an operating system. Thanks in advance

Yes you can use it but I wouldnt. Make sure the case has a 2.5" hard drive bay.

The drive is probably old and slow. Laptops get hot and abused. I would not trust it.

You can get 1TB Western Digital drives for less than $60. Much faster and more reliable.

Yes, you can use it in your new build of course it would be best to backup any important files you want or need and format it and do a fresh O/S install. If your case doesn't have a 2.5 inch mounting you can use a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter.

No I doubt you can use the existing O/S in your new build. The O/S installed on notebooks and desktops are usually OEM versions which are "married" to the unit they are installed on.

If it was a retail version someone bought and installed then you could, as long as you have the O/S DVD and activation code.

I second that.
