Hi,

Today I moved from the FX4170 to the FX9590. I have been testing some games but I'm still getting bad/low FPS. As if I haven't changed to a better CPU at all!

I have tried Minecraft, Prepar3D (Like Flight Simulator X) and I only get around 30FPS in Minecraft & around 20FPS in Prepar3D which is what I was originally getting with the FX4170.

Here are my specs:
Windows 8.1 64bit
AMD FX9590 8-Core CPU @ 4.7/5GHz
16GB RAM
2TB HDD
AMD Radeon R9 280x
Monitor 1: HP w2007v 1680x1050 (32bit, 60Hz)
Monitor 2: LG 24GM77-B 1920x1080 (32bit, 60Hz)

Thanks

welcome to the wondeful world of the AMD faildozer, the single core performance doesnt change much an minecraft only uses one core, try using optifine and make sure to get a version that has multi core chunk loading, If you play game like that id return that cpu you got and replace it with an i5 if your not happy with its performance, a FX 9590 is pretty much a fx 8320 on meth

if you are actually struggling with fps and getting the same fps then something is wrong, scan for viruses and do a registery scan you can get a trial from ad aware antivirus.

what mods are you using in minecraft?

true that could be the problem The FX series has bad single core speed compared to intel but, the fx 9590 should be getting amazing FPS in minecraft, ANY gaming cpu can run minecraft well

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly everyone. I should of really added these earlier so I apologise about that:

Motherboard: GigaByte 78LMT-USB3
PSU: Corsair 750M
Cooler: NH-U12P SE2 Dual Fan

I agree with assassin445522, I don't run any mods. Just on a bukkit server with not too many plugins (about 15) along with no ResourcePacks and only get around 30FPS. Which is better than 20FPS as I use to get... Still should be getting more though, right?

Also AMD recommend a 850 to 1000w PSU as you have to ensure it can deliver enough watts on the 3.3v rail.

The amount of money in motherboard, PSU and cooler required is going to make it much cheaper to upgrade to an i5 which for gaming will still be superior to the 9590

Eh?

The CPU is fed from the VRMs powered by the 12v rail.

minecraft is mostly a cpu intensive game, your motherboard doesnt support that CPU so that is why your FPS is so low, Honestly research it first if you should sell the CPU and get rid of the mobo and get an i5 or just stay with that CPU and get a new mobo, if you have the i5 your fps in minecraft will never ever drop below 60(even when heavily modded and on servers) BUT the AMD route is significantly cheaper and if occasional fps drops in crazy moments dont bother you or arent worth the extra money then stay AMD

Wait, why would this CPU & Motherboard need a new cooler and PSU?!

Ohhhh, I'm guessing you didn't see my post just a little ago? About the i7 4790K @ 4Ghz & the ASRock Z97 Extreme3 Motherboard?

Perfect. I've asked a few people on this combination. Looks like I'll be getting this in the new year then! Thank you :)

If your going to wait until the New Year to buy the Intel setup, you may want to try a motherboard that's compatible with your fx9590 in the meantime (unless you plan to return it immediately). They can be found for under $150 now since the FX arch is so old now. You can always return it if you believe its still under-performing. And your current power supply if absolutely fine.

Thanks for the offer but I see no need to do that since from tomorrow until xmas I am working, then I am busy until the 1st which is when I get paid. So no need. I'm honestly going to take out this CPU, go back to the FX4170 (cause I know I'm getting the same performance and it's working with this mobo.) I will sell the FX9590 when I get my new intel.

i have an fx 4130 and get 60 fps (Offline 8 render distance) with optifine and SEUS ultra 10.2 shaders preview pack. If im playing on an empty server my FPS is fine but for some reason other players take alot of CPU single core power for some reason
I average around 200 fps in minecraft with 8-16 render distance when no players are being rendered and 60 plus on servers only dropping below if there are alot of players around me like 25v25v25v25 battles then i drop below 60
I got 100 plus fps offline with a gt 630 so you should be well above that
