This build is destined for triple boot Windows7, OsX, Ubuntu and I'd like to get rid of the A2 before I move forward.

Components:
- ASRock Z97 Extreme6
- Intel i7-4790K
- G.SKILL TridentX 4 x 8GB (F3-2400C10Q-32GTX)
- Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III
- Club 3D Radeon HD7850 Graphics Cards (CGAX-7856M6)

During initial boot, one memory stick was found to be defective. Reduced memory to 16GB on A1 and B1.

Loaded Windows 7 onto SSD with Windows Home Basic then Anytime Upgrade to Home Premium then Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate.
Windows Update...to bring W7 up to snuff.
ASRock App to update Mobo/Drivers.

All equipment installed (3 memory sticks, defective one left out), with everything working fine. That's when I noticed A2 on MoBo.

To debug A2 issue, configuration was lightened:
- Removed Graphics card
- Disconnected DVD and its SATA cable so that SSD was only SATA.
- Removed all memory and put back one stick (8GB) in A1
- Removed and re-seated CPU
- Removed all power sources including Ethernet and cleared CMOS.

Problems remained. Only when no SATA are present does A2 go away leaving 99 on MoBo.

Any ideas?

SSD and DVD have been connected to SATA3_0 and SATA3_3 ports. From doco I assume both are Intel.
- Does it matter whether SSD is connected to 0 or 3?

Also, ASRock provided power cable not yet in use.

On the chance that I'd not initialized the SSD properly the first time, I used Samsung's "Magician" software to reset it to factory spec. I installed Windows Home Basic, then "updated all" under drivers on the ASRock Support CD. I ended up with the same persistent A2.

Tried the same again with a brand new WD HDD and got the same result.

While I'd rather not go through the return process, it seems silly to declare a new build a success with a MoBo that misreports the main drive as not a boot device.

Any further thoughts?
