As the title suggests, please fill me in as i usually just buy a semi-cheap mouse and haven't for a couple years. no budget, just don't go crazy, under$150 anything above that better be awesome.

As a gamer, I prefer optical. There's plenty of information here already, but final decision is yours.
I've heard people say optical is better due to tracking accuracy although I use a laser mouse with no issues. I don't miss shots in fps or anything because of it, then again I'm not an e-sports champ either.

That link about grip types may help you out if you're not testing in person, otherwise it can be tricky. Part of what makes a good mouse isn't just the build or capabilities but how it fits you personally. The best mouse in the world on paper won't be worth much if you find it too large, too small or awkward.

Totally disagree and here's why with empirical evidence. Read #6. http://www.overclock.net/t/951894/the-truthful-mouse-guide

Logitech G502 Proteus Core Is probably your best choice in my opinion. The G402 if you want to save some cash. Avoid Razer as they are just living off an undeserved reputation now and make overpriced crap for both mice and keyboards. This coming from someone thats dumped over $300 in Razer equipment this past year alone.

Lol did you even watch that? he even says that a lot of gamers still prefer optical, gives no evidence, and most of the responses in the comments are saying otherwise.
And an opinion quoted from Fatal1ty's website by himself about his own branded laser mice:
Quote:
I'm using Microsoft 1.1 SE and/or Microsoft 3.0... I used my Fatal1ty 2020 Laser Mouse for a while, but I use such low sensitivity, that lasers can't keep up with my fast flick shots... Using a laser mouse is cool, because it usually has really good DPI - which mine had, but for close combat it was not ideal... Only way to fix this, was to use a higher sensitivity or use Mouse Accel - either in some ways altered both my long range performance and consistency. With optical, it’s very exact, especially when overclocked to 500hz... It’s about as good as it gets... Don't listen to the hype right now about laser mice... You’re going to end up sacrificing one thing or the other; it will either be incredible at close range or incredible at long range. You can't have both with that device. So I advise optical as the way to go right now till the bandwidth on laser mice is improved so it can keep up with your moves.

This is believeable because he says that even though the mice that were branded after him were using laser sensors.
