ASUS X99-E WS not detecting m.2 ssd

Hello,
I built a computer with ASUS's X99-E WS board and all seems to be good except for some reason it doesn't detect the M.2 ssd.

I first tried installing the ssd into a different computer to see if it was faulty but it worked perfectly there so I'm guessing it must be something with the board.

After a bit of research I found that there was some bug that had issues with m.2 ssd's but as soon as I saw that I updated the BIOS to the latest revision (and supposedly the problem was patched many revisions ago) but still no cigar.

I have been exploring through the settings on the board to see if there's anything setting wise that would cause this. I couldn't find any other posts with this issue though, so I feel like this must be an issue with my rig in particular.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

-Eric

If I'm not wrong, and I think I'm not, that SSD is SATA. You need one that supports PCIe mode.
Something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104543&cm_re=m2_ssd_pcie-_-20-104-543-_-Product
If you check the manusl, it says that M2 is PCIe only.

There's nothing else in there that has M.2 as an option? There are slight variances between ASUS and ROG BIOS - but not much.

From what I can see in the specs, M.2 is x4, not x8 so with the options available there, I would assume it's in another drop down. Do you have a screenshot? Specifically of the "Onboard Device Config" screen.

I tried reseating a couple times earlier and it's definitely all the way in - I doubt it'd be that but I can try again if we can't find another idea

I took a couple screenshots - how can I send them to you?

Oh, guess I was wrong there. Yes, that's a PCIe based M.2 & 2280 so should be supported. Absolutely.

If the m.w drive ya night is nvme only support uefi so force uefi mode for storage or turn of csm legecy support and do full uefi boot if your other drives and video cards support uefi no reason to run legacy at all. Nvme ssds that have been releasing only support uefi means gpt partion only folks

He said it was a samsung eco m.2 ssd hell that board hes got will even support nvme so shouldn't be a problem the 850 eco ain't even nvme I'm thinking his bios is hanging and not showing the drive on boot list needs to pull CMOS battery and clear CMOS newer boards can get finicky like that and hang and won't show drive on boot list with it saying uefi next to the drive for boot selection problly where he's having trouble
