Hello guys. I have an question. Before I put HD7850 1GB 256BIT I was using integrated GPU and I was running around 30-40 to 45 degrees maximum. Now I get minimum 45 degrees without any serious load and around 70 degrees in games. The cpu isn't loaded in World of Warcraft for example at 100% it stays around 70% but the temp is 60+. Is the Graphics probblem or it is the cooler? (Stock one) And does this CPU bottleneck this graphics hard? Thanks

CPU: Pentium G3240
GPU: HD7850 1GB 256BIT
Mobo: Asrock H81-VG4 R2.0
RAM:2x8 Kingston
HDD: 250GB Hitachi (2008 one)

If you haven't messed with settings like V-sync you might consider that. With a powerful GPU it will try to render as many frames as possible, this may be beyond what your CPU can deliver in terms of data throughput and could easily result in your 100% load. Setting the screen to 30Hz and turning on V-sync will result in a 30FPS cap that might hold back your GPU enough for your CPU to play catch up.

Moving to an FX chip is not really an upgrade if you ask most people. Older process, dead socket, higher power/performance, and really older technology. Only ones I would consider worthwhile are FX8320 and up to the FX8370. FX6300 is marginal since it is very easily matched by a recent i3.

If you can afford a motherboard and CPU, then...

The issue is the stock cooler. You can get a decent cooler for $15-$20 that will solve that issue. As far as that CPU bottleneck it really depends on the game and weather its CPU bound. If it is you will see a little bottleneck but not much and definitely not enough to warrant a CPU upgrade especially for that GPU. I actually ran a G3240 with a HD7850 in my sons rig and it worked great for medium-high settings at 1080p.

Yes the CPU isn't the best pairing with an HD7850 (R9-270)

Now that you have more graphical capability the CPU has more to do. In addition to the heat generated by the video card, which would raise overall system temperature.

I would say if you are not experiencing crashing or any other issues, you don't have a problem at all.

7 year old hard drive is a bit of a concern, you might want to keep a backup of important files or consider replacing the drive.

Actually I tried to play GTA 5 on absolutely minmal graphics and the CPU didn't drop under 99% so Its absolutely unplayable. So if I get a better cooler I will be able to use this GPU with the CPU? And I think to upgrade to SSD as soon as I can. Should I upgrade CPU? I am playing World of Warcraft, CS:GO and League of Legends. No crashes to this moment (1 week of having the GPU) and I ran FC3 on ultra with around 60fps without probblem. So should I upgrade to better CPU or just change the cooler? Thanks

That doesn't sound right. Were you trying to play GTA 5 with the CPU alone? Personally I would go with at a core i3 at the very least if you want to get rid of any CPU bottleneck with that GPU.

You would need to replace the CPU in that situation. Most newer games will need more than a dual core. Cooling it better won't make it magically gain more computing potential.

CS:GO and LoL are not resource intensive. WoW is 10 years old, though is a CPU bound title so it will perform much better, up to a point, with a better CPU.

Okay. I think of replacing it with fx 4100 or 6100/6300. Because I don't have enough budget to get a good I5 or better. I head to sell the CPU + the mobo and buy a new config am3+ + fx4100/6100? Is it a good decision? Or should I do anythink else? Thanks for the reply

Yes it doesn't that's the reason for my worries. Actually when I tried GTA5 with the IGPU it runned better.. Like there was a rest for the cpu wasnt always 100% used. I think of replacing the mobo with am3 and upgrade to fx ?

If you can afford a motherboard and CPU, then you should be able to find an i5 for your board. Particularly used CPUs. i5-4430 and i5-4440 should be out there. i5-4460 would be one of the refresh chips and available new. Even an i3-4160 or i3-4170 would be a significant upgrade.

Thank you. I will get the i3 4160 then. Hope the probblem will not occure there. Thanks for the reply! Have a nice day! :)

I wanna add one thing which I experienced today. I've started World of Warcraft and I started to watch a stream in medium res. I've check the tems and te usage of CPU and it was 66 - 70% usage and 76degrees. Isn't it really really too much for dual core cpu? I was not playing I was mainly watching the stream. What to do since I save money for a i3?

I think we already covered those questions. but...

I don't think you need a new CPU cooler, unless you are experience crashing. A better cooler will lower the temperatures, but won't affect performance unless the CPU is throttling back to prevent overheating. You would have to observe the clock frequency decrease under heavy load to know this.

The CPU is not a very good match for the GPU, and you could get more performance with a better CPU, thus the recommendation.
