If both of these amd cpu's were the same price, which one would be better for me? I play games, and I would be using a hyper 212 evo regardless of the cpu.

no necessarily cores clocked the same can have drastically different performance. for example the i5 4690 and the fx 6300. same clock but the i5 benchmarks either then the fx in almost every way despite the 2 less cores. and to the op yes a i5 build would be significantly more expensive compared to what you got.

Well...I got the 8320e and 970 gaming motherboard for 150$. to my knowledge, an i5 would be much more expensive.
