hi, i pulled my 500gb hdd straight from an old laptop (exactly the same laptop) and put into a Seatay hdd enclosure, exact same make and model as this one with the same specs (i will put them below). the problem is when i plug it in, it shows up everything is fine but when i go to open it, my computer has a problem with it and completely freezes. now i was thinking it is the external hdd and having a virus or malware. i tried to format it but the same conclusion, laptop doesn't like it, freezes up. I have run seatools on my laptop to see if there is anything wrong with it internally but nothing came back, I've tried it on multiple computers all with the same effect windows freezes up. When i go to My Computer it shows up under "Local Disk E:", my computer then begins to read the drive (green progress bar in the search bar) it gets 3/4 of the way through then stops dead again if i physically refresh My Computer it starts again and freezes in the same spot. Any suggestions?

NOTE.
I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH COMPLETELY WIPING THE EXTERNAL HDD AS THERE IS NOTHING IMPORTANT ON IT THUS, I CAN FORMAT IT NO PROBLEM.

SPECS:

ACER Aspire E1-522
Running windows 8.1 Full x64 Bit.
AMD Quad-Core Processor A4-5000
4GB RAM
500gb hdd (Internal)

Hey there, XDSlayerDX.

Perhaps there's a problem with the enclosure itself. Try the HDD with a different enclosure/docking station/SATA to USB adapter, to see if the same thing happens. It would be even better if you could try the HDD with a different computer, by directly connecting it to the motherboard via a standard SATA connection.
When you say that you ran test on that drive, did you run the long/extended tests as well? They scan the drive literally sector by sector (which might take a couple of hours) and give you a more realistic view regarding bad sectors.
You could also try to reinstall/update/roll back the external enclosure's driver, to see if that helps you with your problem. Another option would be to try it with a...

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
