pc lagging after cleaning

ok guys i cleaned my whole cpu and now got new issue here that pc is lagging a lot even games like age of empire lags like hell nd when i checked i found that my processor fan was not fitted properly and there was some gap between processor and the fan...
so is that the main reason for my lagging pc?

well the issue is fan is not fitting properly n ya i applied thermal paste after cleaning
nd i used it more then it was before is that can be an problem?

I have Intel E33681-001 Socket 775 Aluminum Heat Sink & 3.5 inch Fan with 4-Pin Connector and i m facing a lot problem in putting it again n locking it but i cant
can i use different cooling fan with screws? that will be much easier

You can use a different cooling fan as long as it matches your motherboard socket. Sometimes they need a bit of a push. Make sure the legs of the cooler arent bent, that could be preventing it from being pushed in.
