Hi All, I have limited budget and the choice pretty much confusing me. I have an ancient system which consist of AMD X3 445, 6Gb RAM, and AMD HD 7770 with 1 Gb VRAM. I mainly play DCS series and now after they updated the graphic engine heavely dependent on GPU.
For the CPU system I plan to buy i3 4170 + new budget mobo and DDR3 8 Gb RAM. As for the second choice I want to buy GTX 970 and new PSU and keep using the ancient AMD system.
Which one should I upgrade, CPU or GPU. I know its not an ideal but the money dictate otherwise.

Thanks for your help

Best for the money does not mean best CPU.

For instance if you want "best for the money" you should def go AMD.
Problem is AMD has no new CPU's since long time and is running behind Intel by far.

When looking for just gaming, Intel is the best choice due the better single core performance

Maybe I fixated to only these choices. How about this i3 4170, 8 GB RAM and GTX 960. Do you think that would make a decent rig ? Probably going to i5 in the future.

Thanks

Dont take i3 for gaming, never.
Take at the very least an i5.

Avoid i3 for gaming :)
An i5 for same generation shouldnt be much of a difference in price.
Always try to "futureproof" as much as you can.
I know the term is a bit "meh" in PC gaming but the difference between an i3 and i5 is noticable while the price difference is not.
For GPU go with GTX 970, 3.5GB VRAM is perfect and can run any game at 1080p ultra with +60fps.

Wow, that's something new for me. But i3 4170 is one of the tomshardware best CPU for the money. Lets see what I can do about the budget. Probably I have to give different approach to the missus lol...

Thanks for your advice
