So i bought yesterday a coolermaster xdream cpu cooler. I removed the motherboard and the ancient avc cpu cooler and mysteriously the cpu cooler were attached to the motherboard with screws. So i checked behind of the motherboard and saw a metal backplate with four screw at the side. How can i SAFELY remove it? I would be very happy if someone could explain it to me because i have read that the removement is extremely critical for the life of the motherboard. Thank you!

Solution
Let the PC run for a while so it gets a bit warm.
When it got warm, its easier to remove both the CPU cooler and backplates from the back of the motherboard.

Just softly wiggle after you unscrewed the backplate untill it comes loose.

How to get your PC warm the easy way?

- Either game for an half hour (cooler needs to be on it)
- Use IntelburnTest (if Intel CPU) and let it run a minute (cooler needs to be on it)
- Use CPU-Z Bench and go to the second last tab, which says "Bench". You can choose either take Benchmark the CPU or Stress test. Both will not hurt the CPU aslong it still got the cooler onto it.

Also check through google and search your motherboard. Maybe its an old motherboard which might have a backplate at stock...

I would say let it run hotter; put the cooler back on and use one of the above mentioned softwares.
I would use IntelBurnTest or Prime95 to make it run hottest.

Clearly it seems your backplate belongs to your motherboard so it will be a bit tricky but not impossible.
Alot of ppl do it with a hairdryer but its not somethng I would suggest, as it can create static electricity and cause permanent damage to any hardware around.
