Are old motherboards and processors compatible with high frequency ram sticks?

I'm fixing up a friend's computer, it's an Acer Aspire X3300, it's running an AMD Phenom II X2 550.
The motherboard model: DA061/078L-AM3 EuP

I can get a 4gb 1600mhz ram stick for cheaper than a 1333mhz one, and I was wondering if it'll be compatible with those parts even though they are pretty old.

Thanks for your attention!
