Hello, last weekend I put a new computer together and I'm getting 0x00000124 blue screens every time the computer is booted up, even in safe mode. I've done some searching around and from what I've read it appears to be a CPU problem, so I requested a replacement from the newegg vendor who sold it. They then told me that since it's a brand new gen 6 Intel processor it's extensively tested and isn't defective and blah blah blah. Afterwards they told me that once I installed it and applied voltage it was no longer new and could not be replaced, and they suggested it was either a RAM or motherboard problem and to figure it out.

So needless to say that really made me angry and I'm now trying to figure out what to do.

Enough of my sob story though, here are the specs of the build:

i5 6600 6M skylake socket 1151
Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI (Rev 1.0) LGA 1151 motherboard
GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit DDR5
2x8GB ripjaw 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM
750 watt corsair PSU left over from the old build

I was able to perform a clean install of Windows 7 but that's it. The computer isn't stable enough to install anything else so I can't update drivers or check anything that's normally suggested with this blue screen.

So far I've tried testing each memory stick on its own, removing the video card, reseating everything, removing the thermal paste that came with the CPU and reapplying new paste, checking all the fans, and poking around in the BIOS a bit.

Everything is stock speeds, all fans are working, the case is spotless and all the fans have been cleaned as well. The blue screen happens even in safe mode though it tends to take longer than if booting windows normally.

I'm totally at a loss here and I'm not sure what to do besides return the motherboard, RAM, and GPU for new ones and trying again.

Any and all help would be appreciated. I am on my phone so I'm somewhat limited by that.

Thank you everyone in advance.

I ended up figuring it out. The problem was the old wireless adapter that I had and apparently the motherboard didn't like it. I removed it and everything seems fine now. Thanks for all your help :)

Unfortunately the PC crashes within a couple minutes of booting to Windows so it isn't up long enough to update the motherboard BIOS, unless I'm missing something?
