Hi. I recently purchased an r9 280x toxic sapphire ed and had it installed on my system. turned on the pc and didn't beep and show bios/splash screen like how it normally does. Every power cables are connected properly and i am thinking that my psu would be sufficient (corsair vs650). I assume that this is a compatability issue with my motherboard. Mine is a Biostar h61mlv which hasn't updated bios since 03/10/2015. Went to biostar website and it looks like no further updates were made available for bios. I've seen similar issue getting fixed by updating bios.

my previous card is an HD7770. Uninstalled old drivers via DDU,reseated the card and still didn't work. Fans and led work when i turn on the pc.

Does it look like i'm going to have to buy a new motherboard?

Unless a BIOS update specifically states it resolves an issue that you are experiencing, then it is unwise to attempt it. If your system was successful at running an HD7770, it should have no problems running the R9-280.

First, I would attempt to reinstall the HD7770 to make sure that still works. Then I would attempt to use the R9-280x in another computer to ensure that works.
