My company has a dinosaur network with upload/download speeds around 6 mbps. My home network is about 150 mbps. I need to move files about 3gb to a vm server that I use RDC to access. Is it any faster if I login and move the files from home or due to the limitation of the company network speed would there be no difference?
Thanks in advance!
so the destination is a server on the company network.
where is the source?
Either the internet off of the VM or the internet from my home but I have to load the files to the VM over VPN if I pull the files down at home.
we are transferring files between 2 devices. 1 of the devices (the destination) is a server on the company network.
What is the second device (source) and where is it located?
for example, its a laptop that you can take with you anywhere
its a desktop at your house
its a VM located in the Office
1. Source file location to be downloaded is on the internet
2. The final destination is on the VM server
3. I have 3 ways to get the file.
3a. At work from my pc, RDC into VM, open a browser and enter the URL then download the file to the VM
3b. From my computer at work, go to URL, download file to desktop. Then RDC into VM and upload file to VM
3c. From work computer at home, open a browser, go to URL and download file. Then VPN into work network, RDC onto the VM and upload the file.
I am trying to figure out which would be the fastest - and maybe they are the same - since the work network is so slow. I was hoping if I used VPN from home it would be faster.
Thanks for your patience and help!
